From Tunisia to Spain, With Love
Oh, darlings, when we first began dreaming about our wedding, Tunisia felt like the natural choice. It is my home, my roots, my family, the place where my earliest hopes for love quietly bloomed.
One thing is certain: Tunisian weddings are legendary. They aren’t just a day; they are a festival. Days overflowing with music, tradition, and joy. The steady rhythm of hand drums (darbuka), the sweetness of green tea with pine nuts, the fragrant curl of bkhour (incense) in the air… and the dancing. Oh, the endless, unstoppable dancing is my favorite part.
Preparations begin long before the wedding day itself: families gathering, the elderly arriving early to offer their blessings, and the zagharit, those soaring ululations of joy, rising from the hearts of loving family and friends, carrying their affection and blessings into the air. The walk to the hammam, the traditional silky sefsari wrapping gracefully around the bride from head to toe, hiding and revealing just enough, the music spilling into the streets, the laughter that lingers long into the night. I miss all of this, and so much more.
I am Tunisian, and I carry deep pride in the way we celebrate love. There is nothing else quite like it. But here is the truth: planning a full Tunisian wedding from afar, from Germany, would mean more stress than joy.
We want to savor this journey, to laugh through the planning, to be part of every choice, to build memories together, not be buried beneath logistics or hand the process to someone else. Because in the end, the wedding day is just a single day. The journey toward it is what truly matters.
And so, we decided to get married in Spain.
Spain is a dream all on its own. Spanish weddings carry their own quiet magic: heartfelt vows spoken beneath ancient arches, tables overflowing with food and drinks, the warmth of family and friends gathering not just for a ceremony, but for a true feast of love.
Simple. Elegant. Easy. Just what we need.
Jose always says weddings in Spain are humble, unpretentious, warm and filled with heart. That is exactly the way we want to celebrate: a day without unnecessary complication, yet rich with meaning and joy.
But through it all, I remain Tunisian. My roots run deep, and they will travel with me. My traditions will not be left behind. They will weave their way into every detail, appearing in unexpected and joyful moments.
The story isn’t over yet, and the sweetest part is still to come. ❤️ Stay tuned...
